Publish on the Viremail Store
Build native apps for Mac, Windows and Linux and publish them to people who sign in with Viremail. $19 a year to publish, free apps pay nothing more, and paid apps pay a flat 18%.
How it works
Register
Open /developers/store with your developer organisation and apply as a publisher. We verify every publisher, usually within 3 working days. The developer account is $19 a year.
Add Sign in with Viremail
Make a Sign in with Viremail app in the developer portal and add the SDK to your app. Paid apps also check the licence with the SDK.
List and upload
Write the listing, choose a category and upload your signed installers for Mac, Windows and Linux. We check the size, the SHA-256 and the file type, and scan every file.
Reviewed, then live
A person reviews the first listing within 3 working days and each new release within 2. Security fixes are looked at within 1.
Get paid
On paid apps we keep a flat 18%, payment processing included, and Stripe pays you out. Free apps pay nothing.
The rules
Native installers, nothing new to learn
Send us what you already ship: a signed and notarised .dmg or .pkg for Mac, a signed .msi, .exe or .msix for Windows, and an .AppImage, .deb or .rpm for Linux.
Sign in with Viremail is required
Each app links a live, approved Sign in with Viremail app made by the same developer organisation. We check it in review and on the server.
Not a competitor of Viremail’s own apps
No email, chat, documents, spreadsheets, storage, calendar, tasks, notes, password managers, browsers or other apps that Viremail already makes. The full list is in the guidelines.
Clear rules and fair strikes
Breaches earn strikes that count for 12 months: a warning, then restrictions, suspension or a ban. Malware, fraud, child sexual abuse material and impersonation are an immediate ban. Every strike can be appealed once, and every change is in your audit log.
The developer guidelines, community guidelines and violation policy are drafts that are being reviewed. They are not in force yet.
Fees
$19 a year to publish
The developer account lets you send apps and updates for review. If it lapses your apps stay listed, but nothing new goes out until you renew.
Free apps pay nothing
List as many free apps as you like.
18% flat on paid apps
Payment processing is included. Viremail is the merchant of record and handles VAT and sales tax.
Paid checkout comes later
Paid apps show Coming soon until payments are switched on. Free apps can be published now.
Questions
- Is the Viremail Store open?
- The Viremail Store is being built. Free apps come first, and paid checkout opens once payments are switched on. This page will say when it is live.
- Do I have to use Sign in with Viremail?
- Yes. Every app on the Viremail Store uses it. It gives you a private ID for each person, and a licence check for paid apps.
- Which computers do apps run on?
- Mac, Windows and Linux, as native installers. A developer chooses which platforms and chips to support, and the page shows what each app has.
- How much does it cost to publish?
- The developer account is $19 a year. Free apps pay nothing more. Paid apps pay a flat 18% commission on the price, with payment processing included.
- Can I get a refund?
- Yes. Within 14 days of buying, ask for a refund. Your first refund of an app is given without questions. A refund takes back the licence.
- Why can’t I publish a mail or notes app?
- The Viremail Store is for apps that add to Viremail, not ones that replace it. The list of categories we do not accept is in the developer guidelines.
- What happens if a developer breaks the rules?
- They get a strike. Strikes lead to a warning, restrictions, suspension or a ban, and each can be appealed. Malware, fraud, child sexual abuse material and impersonation mean an immediate ban.
