Publishing on the Viremail Store

Register as a publisher, list an app, upload your installers and get through review.

Developers anywhere can publish native apps on the Viremail Store. The developer account is $19 a year.

Before you start

  • A developer organisation at /developers. If you do not have one, make one there.
  • A Sign in with Viremail app (client id starting vma_) that is live and approved, owned by the same organisation. Every app on the Viremail Store signs people in with it.
  • Signed installers: a notarised .dmg or .pkg for Mac, an Authenticode-signed .msi, .exe or .msix for Windows, and an .AppImage, .deb or .rpm for Linux (signing recommended).
  • A privacy policy for your app.

Register as a publisher

  1. Open the Viremail Store for developers and choose Apply.
  2. Say whether you act as a trader (you sell as part of a business). Traders give an address, phone and registration number, which show on your listings. Selling paid apps also needs identity checks with Stripe.
  3. We verify you, usually within 3 working days.
  4. Pay the developer fee of $19 a year. You need it to send apps and updates for review. If it lapses, your apps stay on the Viremail Store but nothing new goes out until you renew. Until payments are switched on, developer accounts open by invitation.

List an app and send a release

  1. Make a new app. Choose a category and link your Sign in with Viremail app. Write an honest description and add screenshots.
  2. Add a release: its version, notes, and one installer for each platform and chip (x64, arm64 or universal). Tell us each file's size and SHA-256.
  3. Upload. We check the size, the SHA-256 and the file type, and scan the file. Files can be up to 2 GB.
  4. Send it for review. A person checks your first listing within 3 working days, and each release within 2. Security fixes are looked at within 1.

Listings and limits

Links in a listing go to your own pages, never to a download: no installer files, file sharing sites or link shorteners. Describe the app in sentences rather than a list of search words, and use your app's own name, not another company's. There are fair limits on new apps, edits, images and uploads in an hour or a day. Accounts that run into them again and again get a strike for spam.

What we do not accept

Apps that do what Viremail's own apps do: email, messaging and calls, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, file storage, calendars, tasks, notes, address books, password managers, browsers, website builders, CRM, invoicing, HR, rotas, hiring, clipboard managers and system cleaners. The developer guidelines have the full list.

Fees

The developer account is $19 a year. Free apps pay nothing more. Paid apps pay a flat 18% of the price, with payment processing included. Viremail is the merchant of record and handles VAT and sales tax, and Stripe pays you out. Paid checkout opens when payments are switched on. Until then only free apps can be published.
