Free photos in CanvasNew

Search free photo libraries from inside a design and place a photo with a click. The credit stays with the photo.

The Photos panel in Canvas searches free photo libraries, so you can add a photo to a design without leaving it.

Find and place a photo

  1. In a design, open Photos on the left. In the Advanced workspace, it is the camera button at the bottom of the tool column.
  2. Type what you are looking for, or pick an idea such as Business, Food or Nature. Scroll down for more.
  3. Click a photo to place it on the page, or drag it onto the page or into a picture frame. It then works like any other picture: crop it, adjust it and give it a frame shape.

Hover over a photo to see who took it and where it comes from. If your business has more than one library switched on, choose between them above the ideas.

Which photos

  • Openverse is always there. Canvas only shows its photos that are marked CC0 or public domain, so you can use them for anything, also commercially, without asking.
  • Pexels, Unsplash and Pixabay show when your Viremail server has them switched on. Their photos are free to use, also commercially, under each library's own licence.

Photos of people, brands or buildings can carry other rights, such as a person's right to their likeness or a trademark. Check before you use one in an advert.

Credits

Each photo keeps its credit: who took it, the library, a link to its page and its licence. Select the photo and choose the i button in the bar above the page (or look in Properties in the Advanced workspace), then Copy credit to paste it into a caption or post. Unsplash asks for "Photo by name on Unsplash"; the other libraries welcome a credit too.

Privacy and offline

Canvas fetches the photo for you and keeps a copy with your design, so it stays even if the library removes it. Searches go through Viremail, so the libraries never learn your name or email address. The small previews in the panel load from the libraries' own picture servers, as they ask. Searching needs a connection: offline, the panel says so.
