Record a voice message, play it at your own speed and pick up where you left off.
When the message box is empty, a microphone takes the place of the Send button.
- On a computer, click the microphone to start, then stop and listen before you send. Esc cancels.
- On a phone, hold the microphone and talk, then let go to send. Slide left to cancel, or slide up to lock it, so you can pause, carry on and listen before you send.
A voice message can be up to 15 minutes long, and the other person sees that you're recording. If a call comes in, your recording pauses and waits for you.
When you play one, drag along the waveform to jump around, and choose 1x, 1.5x or 2x. Your speed is remembered, each message picks up where you left off, and it keeps playing while you move to another Vire. The next voice message from the same person plays straight after. The sender sees a blue microphone once you've listened, unless one of you has read receipts off.
Show text writes out a voice message only where your browser can do that entirely on your device. The recording is never sent to us or to anyone else for this. Where it isn't possible, the button doesn't appear.
In Settings, Vire and calls you choose who can send you voice messages, or let people know you prefer text.
