Timeline, dependencies and the critical pathNew

On the Timeline, drag the dot at the end of a bar onto another bar to link them. Click an arrow to change it:

• Finish to start (FS): the next task starts after this one finishes,
• Start to start (SS), Finish to finish (FF) and Start to finish (SF) for work that overlaps,
• lag in working days, or a negative number for a lead.

Links can point to tasks on other boards, as long as you can edit both tasks, and both boards note the link, and any change to it, in their activity. Changing a link’s type or lag moves dates on both boards, so it needs edit rights on both tasks. A linked task on a board you are not on shows as “a task you can’t see”; you can still remove the link from your end, and the other board sees who did. A link that would make a loop is refused and the loop is shown, for example WEB-3 > WEB-7 > WEB-3.

Critical path highlights the tasks that decide the finish date and shows the float of the others as a dotted tail. Durations count working days, skip public holidays and keep done tasks where they happened.

Save baseline keeps today’s dates (up to five per board). Pick one to see its bars under the live ones, the slip for each task, and the finish date against it. List view adds a Slip column with how many working days each task’s finish has moved.

With Auto-schedule on, moving a task shows where the tasks that depend on it would go, and warns if someone is away. Nothing moves until you choose Apply.

Export the timeline as a PNG, or choose Save as PDF and pick “Save as PDF” in the print window, or open the schedule with early and late dates in a Grid.
