Contacts, import and export

Open Contacts and choose Create contact. People you email often appear under Frequently emailed, ready to add.

Get your contacts out of another app

• iPhone: open the Contacts app and tap Lists. Touch and hold All Contacts, tap Export, then save the file. You can also sign in to iCloud.com, open Contacts, select everyone and choose Export vCard.
• Android: open the Contacts app, tap Fix & manage, then Export to file. This saves a .vcf file.
• Google Contacts: on contacts.google.com choose Export, pick Google CSV or vCard, then Export.
• Outlook.com and the new Outlook: open People, choose Manage contacts and then Export contacts. Outlook saves a CSV file.
• Outlook for Windows (classic): choose File, Open & Export, Import/Export, then Export to a file and Comma Separated Values, and pick your Contacts folder.
• Thunderbird: in the Address Book, select the book and choose Export, as vCard or LDIF.

Import into Viremail

1. In Contacts, open Manage and choose Import contacts. You can also drag the file onto the Contacts page.
2. We work out what kind of file it is, for example "142 contacts from Google Contacts". For other CSV files you choose what each column holds and see a preview.
3. Check the preview. If some people are already in your address book (same email or phone number), choose to skip them, merge their new details in, or import anyway.
4. Choose Import. When it finishes you see how many contacts were added, merged, skipped or failed, and you can download a list of the ones that failed.

vCard files (.vcf, versions 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0), Google CSV, Outlook CSV, other CSV files (comma, semicolon or tab separated) and Thunderbird LDIF all work. Files can be up to 10 MB with up to 10,000 contacts. Photos, labels such as "Grandma" or "Personal", birthdays, addresses and notes come across too.

Export

Choose Export contacts, or select some contacts first with the select button above the list. Then pick a format:

• For iPhone and Android: vCard 3.0 with photos. This also works with iCloud, Google Contacts and Outlook for Mac.
• For Google Contacts: Google CSV.
• For Outlook: Outlook CSV, which also opens cleanly in Excel.
• vCard 4.0: for apps that ask for the newer format.

The file is named like viremail-contacts-2026-09-26.vcf. To import it on an iPhone, open the file from Mail or Files and tap Add All Contacts. In Google Contacts or Outlook, use their Import option.
