Write documents together in Docs

Edit at the same time, comment, suggest changes and go back to older versions.

Create a document from New in Drive, from a template, or by importing a .docx, .html, .md or .txt file.

  • Everyone who opens the document edits the same copy. You see each person's cursor with their name, and their faces at the top.
  • It saves as you type. If your connection drops you can keep writing; your changes are sent when you are back online.
  • Select text and choose Comment (Ctrl Alt M) to start a discussion. Type @ and a name to bring someone in. Resolve a thread when it is done.
  • Switch Editing to Suggesting to propose changes. They show in colour until an editor accepts or rejects them.
  • Version history keeps automatic versions while people work. Name a version to keep a milestone, preview any version, and restore it if you need to. Restoring never loses the newer text; it is kept as a version too.
  • File, Download saves a copy as a .docx document, PDF, web page, Markdown or plain text. PDF uses your browser's print dialog, so choose Save as PDF there.
