Subtasks, epics and sprintsNew

Break work down with owners and dates, group it in epics, and plan sprints against velocity.

Subtasks have their own assignee, dates and column. Add them under Subtasks in a task, or turn a checklist item into one with its subtask button. Cards show progress like 2/5. Subtasks go two levels deep. Deleting a parent keeps its subtasks as tasks of their own, and marking a parent done while subtasks are open asks first. In Planning settings you can make parents take their dates from their subtasks.

Set a task’s Type to Epic to group work across columns. Other tasks join it with the Epic field and show a coloured chip with its name. A Milestone shows as a diamond on the timeline.

Sprints

Turn on Use sprints in the board’s Planning settings. The Sprints view has the running sprint, planned sprints and the backlog:

  1. Add tasks to a planned sprint with the arrows in the backlog. Planning shows the points against the average of your last three sprints and the team’s capacity for those dates.
  2. Start the sprint with a goal and dates. Its points become the commitment.
  3. The burndown shows remaining points and scope, so work added mid-sprint is visible, not hidden.
  4. Complete sprint moves open work to the backlog, the next sprint or a new one. The numbers are kept for velocity and the carry-over rate.
