A group Vire is one conversation with up to 256 people on this mail service.

Start a group

1. In Vire, choose New Vire, then New group.
2. Pick people from your friends and the people you talk to, or type an address.
3. Give the group a name and, if you like, a photo and a description, then choose Create group.

Bringing people in

• Add people in the group details adds someone straight away.
• Make an invite link gives you a link and a QR code that anyone on this mail service can use to join. You can make a link that lasts 7 days or works for one person, turn it off at any time, and choose Admins approve people who join with the link.
• If someone's settings don't let you add them directly, they get an invite in a one-to-one Vire, and they decide.
• You choose who can add you in Settings, Vire and calls: Everyone, Friends or Nobody. A group started by someone you don't know waits in Requests until you accept it.

Owner and admins

The person who starts a group is its owner. The owner and admins can add and remove people, make others admins and change the group settings. They can also remove any message for everyone within 48 hours, and the message then reads "Removed by an admin".

In Group settings, admins choose who can send messages, change the group info, add people, pin messages and set disappearing messages, and how much history new members see. If the owner leaves, the admin who has been there longest takes over, or else the longest-standing member.

In the conversation

• Type @ to mention someone. @all reaches everyone, even people who muted the group, unless they turned that off in the group details. In groups of more than 32 people only admins can use it.
• Pin up to 3 messages to keep them at the top.
• Message info on your own message shows who has read it and who it reached. People with read receipts off are only counted.
• Reply privately opens a one-to-one Vire with that person, quoting their message.
• Forward sends a message to up to 5 Vires at once, marked Forwarded.
• Select lets you copy, forward, export, delete or make a task from several messages at once.
• The call buttons start a group call for up to 8 people.
• Choose +, then Poll or Find a time, to ask the group something. See Polls and Find a time.

When you leave a group or someone removes you, you keep the messages you could see until then, just as they were when you left, and you can't send any more. Reactions, pins and edits made after you left don't reach you.
