API pricing and spending caps

What Viremail’s APIs cost developers, the free allowances, and how the monthly spending cap works.

Sign in with Viremail, licence checks, update checks and Viremail Store downloads are free. Heavier APIs have a free allowance each month, then a price per use, billed once a month.

The prices

  • Sign in with Viremail token calls: 1,000,000 calls a month per app free, never billed.
  • Licence checks: 1,000,000 checks a month per app free, never billed.
  • Update checks: 5,000,000 checks a month per app free, never billed.
  • Store downloads: free and unlimited, never billed.
  • Mail send (when it opens): 3,000 messages a month free, then $0.50 per 1,000 messages.

  • Drive downloads (egress) (when it opens): 10 times what you store free, then $0.01 per GB.
  • Drive writes (when it opens): 1,000,000 operations a month, writes and reads together free, then $5 per million operations.
  • Drive reads (when it opens): 1,000,000 operations a month, writes and reads together free, then $0.50 per million operations.
  • Calendar and contacts (when it opens): 100,000 calls a month free, then $0.10 per 1,000 calls.
  • AI calls (when it opens): $1 of usage a month free, then Provider cost plus 20%.
  • Webhooks (when it opens): 100,000 deliveries a month free, then $0.10 per 1,000 deliveries.

Fair use

The free APIs have a fair-use ceiling per app each month. Going over it never switches your app off: we tell you, and if it keeps happening we talk. What is limited is each person signed in to your app: one sign-in that calls too often in an hour gets 429 with a Retry-After header, and everyone else carries on. Signing in is never limited, an app can always give a token back, and update checks count at most once an hour from each address.

Your spending cap

  • Open API usage for your organisation in the developer console. It shows this month per app, the free allowances, the bill so far and where it is heading.
  • The cap starts at $0, so you only use the free allowances until an owner or admin raises it. Nobody gets a surprise bill.
  • At the cap, calls that would cost money get 429 "Monthly spending cap reached" until the cap is raised or the month ends.
  • We tell your organisation’s owners and admins, in Viremail and by email, at 50%, 80% and 100% of the cap and of each free allowance, once each month.

Billing

A month is billed once it ends, through Stripe, to the card on your developer account. Months under $0.50 are not charged. If an invoice goes unpaid, paid APIs stop until it is paid, and the free allowances keep working. Billing and invoices on the Usage page opens Stripe’s page with your past invoices.

Paid usage opens soon. Until it does, every API stops at its free allowance and nothing is billed.
  • Prices are in US dollars, with VAT on top where it applies.
  • Billed once a month to the card on your developer account, through Stripe.
  • You set a monthly spending cap. It starts at $0, so you only use the free allowances until you raise it.
  • We email your organisation’s owners and admins at 50%, 80% and 100% of the cap and of each free allowance.
  • Failed and refused calls are never counted.
  • Fair-use ceilings never switch an app off: past one we tell you, and each person signed in to your app has an hourly limit of their own.
