Publishing on Shelf
Register as a publisher, list an app, upload your installers and get through review.
Developers anywhere can publish native apps on Shelf. Registering is free.
Before you start
- A developer organisation at /developers. If you do not have one, make one there.
- A Sign in with Viremail app (client id starting
vma_) that is live and approved, owned by the same organisation. Every app on Shelf signs people in with it. - Signed installers: a notarised
.dmgor.pkgfor Mac, an Authenticode-signed.msi,.exeor.msixfor Windows, and an.AppImage,.debor.rpmfor Linux (signing recommended). - A privacy policy for your app.
Register as a publisher
- Open Shelf for developers and choose Apply.
- Say whether you act as a trader (you sell as part of a business). Traders give an address, phone and registration number, which show on your listings. Selling paid apps also needs identity checks with Stripe.
- We verify you, usually within 3 working days.
List an app and send a release
- Make a new app. Choose a category and link your Sign in with Viremail app. Write an honest description and add screenshots.
- Add a release: its version, notes, and one installer for each platform and chip (x64, arm64 or universal). Tell us each file's size and SHA-256.
- Upload. We check the size, the SHA-256 and the file type, and scan the file. Files can be up to 2 GB.
- Send it for review. A person checks your first listing within 3 working days, and each release within 2. Security fixes are looked at within 1.
What we do not accept
Apps that do what Viremail's own apps do: email, messaging and calls, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, file storage, calendars, tasks, notes, address books, password managers, browsers, website builders, CRM, invoicing, HR, rotas, hiring, clipboard managers and system cleaners. The developer guidelines have the full list.
Fees
Free apps pay nothing. Paid apps pay a flat 15% of the price, with payment processing included. Viremail is the merchant of record and handles VAT and sales tax, and Stripe pays you out. Paid checkout opens when payments are switched on. Until then only free apps can be published.
